sony can recoup a lot of the budget back,but the owners of the movie theaters who did not show it for whatever reason,lost a shirt load in the end.just because it was so controversial,it would have made 50 million it's 1st weekend had the theater chains just had the guts to show it the 1st time.
So, has Sony started a new trend in releasing a movie to theaters and digital platforms at the same time?

Not really. If some kid has 3 buddies over and they rent it for $5.99 off of iTunes, there's a minimum loss of $17.97 there...not to mention realistically, whatever the loss in the theaters would be...$40-$50 minus whatever percentage a theater gets?
sony said yesterday they have made 40 million so far off of the movie. i still think if they had released it at the theater,they would have made a shirtload off of it.
