Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio described the competitions at safety as "wide open," on Friday night with no clear winners for the starting positions yet. Gerald Alexander started at strong safety for most of last season. Sean Considine began as the team's starter at the position, but after an injury sidelined him for a few games, Alexander took over. As for free safety, Reggie Nelson was the team's starter there for most of last season. And while several players have had bright spots in camp, better barometers will come during the team's preseason games, the first of which is Friday in Philadelphia. "This is one of the most competitive safety battles I've ever been in," Sean Considine said. "I played four years at Philadelphia and right now I think we got five or six guys, four of us have started in the NFL at the safety position and it's been a dogfight in camp."
