Kirby Wilson will leave the Steelers and is expected to become the running backs coach on Mike Zimmer’s new Minnesota Vikings staff after the Super Bowl.

Wilson learned earlier today that he would not be hired to become the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator after he had his second interview with John Harbaugh Friday afternoon.

Wilson was under contract with the Steelers for one more year but they granted his request to leave. He will succeed James Saxon, who was not retained by Zimmer after three seasons coaching the Minnesota running backs.

Wilson once was in line to become offensive coordinator with the Steelers, but he was severely burned in a kitchen fire early in 2012 and was unable to fill that job when Bruce Arians’ contract was not renewed weeks later. Wilson gradually returned to coaching that year and resumed his duties as running backs coach in 2012.
