And he "only" got two hits in the 5th one...lol. I declared the season over so many times I lost count. I'm so glad to be wrong all those times.
I was thinking about making a new thread, but let's do it here, even though it's not Mariners related (maybe it will be?). The Ohtani injury. I think this changes everything. Some people say he might never pitch again, but he's still a top 3 hitter in MLB and he still can command the biggest contract in baseball history, based on what Aaron Judge got last winter. If he insists on pitching, he might not do it in 2024 and probably most of 2025. Maybe a switch to the bullpen? 20-30 pitches every other day instead of 100 every 5 days might help him extend his two-way career. He closed the WBC Final...he could be an awesome closer...but does he want to? Will he get a shorter deal as a hitter only and then try again pitching 2 or 3 years from now? If he goes shorter, now pretty much every team has a chance. Yes, even the Angels. All I know is this winter is going to be very, very interesting...and I think the M's have a better shot now to sign him, even if only short term and as a hitter, which is the one thing we need the most. Thoughts?
It really sucks that he got hurt. It definitely will cost him a lot of money, how much I’m not sure. He’ll get a million physicals and opinions from a ton of doctors. It definitely could end up that a dark horse team ends up with a bargain.
For the first time since August 2003 (that's 20 years) the Seattle Mariners are alone in 1st place of the AL West after the all-star break. I can't believe it's happening and I can't believe it took this long. Hottest team in baseball...
The Mariners just had the winningest month in franchise history with 21 yesterday. Day off today so the record is now closed. They did this without their (aguably) second best player, and right after trading away their closer. One-game division lead. It will be a fun september.
Mariners open a series against the Reds today, in which a lot of former prospects will play against us (sent there in two separate trades: the Geno Suarez trade and the Castillo trade. I REGRET NOTHING!!).
Just a brutal road trip for the M's... 3-7, no days off, we lost the division lead, our bullpen is out of gas, and most of the starters too. We're limping towards the finish line clinging to the 3rd wildcard. The ups and downs of a baseball season are brutal. Good thing we open a saries against the Angels tonight, at home. We should sweep those bastards easily.
Just a brutal series against the Dodgers. Absolutelly brutal. When the first time you get swept at home is in mid-september it's awesome and awful at the same time. This team just can't hang with the elite. The Dodgers clinched on saturday, played the bench and the bullpen and were hungover on sunday and still won easily 6-1. Not sure why even make the playoffs at this point. Two weeks ago we led the division by one game. Today we're out of the playoffs altogether by 1 game. This season has been that crazy. Good thing we open a series against Oakland tonight. A sweep is imperative. After that, we start our own little playoff series against the Astros and Rangers to define everything. This will be fun...I keep telling myself that...
M's took care of business in Oakland. Series sweep and it feels like they didn't even play at full strength. Good preseason!! 10 games left. 7 vs. Rangers, 3 vs. Astros. Two of these three teams will advance...or perhaps all three if the Blue Jays self-destruct. The playoffs begin on friday.
M's were swept again, against Texas this time. The division seems ot of reach now but we're still .5 games back from the final WC spot thanks to the Royals, of all teams, that just swept the Astros. Speaking of...3 games against the Astros start today. Feels like they will decide the final playoff spot in the AL.
Mariners are hanging on by a thread but still control their destiny. Keep winning, and we're in. One more loss, and we'll need help. Simple as that.

Mariners were eliminated on saturday night. Maybe I should've gone to the beach again this year, and watched the game on a bar from my dying phone with old strangers buying me drinks... Luis Castillo saved his worst start of the season for when we needed the Cy Young candidate the most. In fact, disappearing in big moments was a characteristic of this team...I guess because of how young it is. Fans are pissed...I'm just sad. I expected regression from last year but even then I was disappointed...
Cowboys fans who are Rangers fans are making fun of Cowboys fans who are not Rangers fans. Social media is the best.
Three Mariners pitchers got Cy Young votes: Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert. Three Mariners players got MVP Votes: Julio Rodriguez, JP Crawford, Cal Raleigh. I don't think any other team got this...I could be wrong, though. This is the most exciting young core I've seen in my life. I'll be so upset when half those guys end up with the Yankees or Dodgers, but such is life.
The Mariners just traded Eugenio Suarez to Arizona for a bag of chips and a ham sandwich. A clubhouse leader and fan favorite who declined a bit this season after an amazing 2022 but still played elite defense (he was robbed of the gold glove IMO). This does not look good. We're dumping salary now?
I woke up to the news that the M's traded Jared Kelenic to the Braves, on yet another salary dump, and I'm so mad right now. While it's amazing that DiPoto (M's GM) managed to dump Evan White's and Marco Gonzales' albatross of contracts to someone else, it took Kelenic, the "cornerstone" of the rebuild that started in 2018, and my second favorite player on the team, for them to complete the deal. Sure, he struggled in his first couple of years in MLB, but it looked at the end of the season that he was about to turn the corner. I'm so disappointed by this. I had been following him since he was the most hyped prospect in Seattle since Griffey. The Mariners have shed almost 50 million in salary this offseason. Some naive fans think we're saving for Ohtani, but that's just stupid. We had 2 holes in the line up back in october. Now it's december and we have 5 holes. Unless Ohtani can play two outfield positions, third base, and DH while he pitches, it's just not worth it. Seattle has the poorest (sorry, that didn't sound right...let me try again)... Seattle has the less rich (better) owner in american pro sports...and sometimes it shows.
I'm anxiously awaiting to see if you approve of the M's trade today. I have no idea if it is good for them or not.
