Cowboys opened training camp. Ceedee Lamb is not there. Dak is there but has no deal yet and he's in a contract year. Mike McCarthy is a lame duck coach at this point. Yeah, all it's good. Business as usual. 12 wins, quick playoff exit. I might skip the same old movie this time...at least I'm thinking about it...
Yeah, I will...it just feels different this time. The wait for training camp used to feel like years. Now I was all like "wait, what? Camp is starting already?" I have not seen this apathy from the whole fanbase in my life. Even the "this is our year" crowd, the always optimistic ones are being more cautious this time. Usually it was painful playoff loss, vow to never watch agan, then the draft comes along, and mini camps and by training camp we were back. This time it doesn't feel like that. Let's see what happens in the preseason.
I honestly am not really pumped up for the Eagles, at least not yet. I don't really know what their identity is now. Two new coordinators, addition of Saquan, perhaps a riff between Hurts & Sirianni, so many new defensive players...they could be awful or SB contenders.
Tua Tagovailoa and Jordan Love are the latest highest paid QBs of all time. Lots of dough, forgot the details but both are over 52 million APY. Dak is doing his SHOW ME THE MONEY impression in camp.
Jordan Love: Half a season of decent ball, one playoff win. Gets richest contract in NFL history. Media: Totally deserved. Dak Prescott: 9 years of good to awesome ball. MVP numbers in the last couple of years, 3 playoff wins. Still waiting for new deal. Media: Overrated. Black Kirk Cousins. Deserves 30 million tops. At least it's not about race this time...
Got a glimpse of the preseason game yesterday against the Rams. 5 minutes just to get my football fix and move on with my weekend... Geez...this team is lost if Dak goes down or leaves. Trey Lance might be the biggest bust of the century not named JaMarcus Russell. The only reason Kyle Shanahan didn't lose his job over that pick is because he got luck with Purdy. Lance is TERRIBLE. You wouldn't believe the easy throws he missed. I think Dak and his people just went with Jerry and demanded a couple more million...and a pet unicorn, just to mess with him. Other than that, it was your usual preseason football where half the players won't even be on the roster a month from now...
Once again Forbes has ruined my day, announcing the Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the world and it has just crossed 10 billion dollars in valuable. The same franchise that hasn't won anything in 30 years. The same franchise with 4 playoff wins in that span. THAT franchise is the most valuable in the world. So winning is not even in the equation...just attention. Make people talk about you. Say what you want about Jerry Jones, but he cracked the code.
Every time I'm called a "bandwagon fan" it breaks my soul and hurts my brain. Maybe I should've jumped ship a decade ago...
I hope nothing happens to Hurts. Kenny Pickett looks awful. The Eagles lack of depth across the board, with the possible exception of cornerback, is a really big concern.
Brandon Aubrey nailed a 66-yd field goal the other day in Vegas, which would've tied the NFL in season record. That's so cool. I can't wait to see him miss extra points once the season starts.
My annual Over/Under contest is up, boys. Have at it! SportsChump’s 14th Annual Over/Under Contest - Sports Chump And did I read somewhere that the Eagles are snaking Dotson from the Commanders? WTF?
Drew Magary's Why Your Team Sucks series is probably my favorite of the preseason because we get to talk sh!t about all 32 teams. Today it was the Cowboys turn. This is my favorite bit so far: I used to be #2. Now I'm a very tired and sad #1.
Well the preseason is over and at least all the people saying we should cut Dak and let Lance be QB1 this year are finally, mercifully silent. Cooper Rush is the back up QB. Real football starts in 11 days.
I’m so glad I didn’t watch any of the Eagles preseason games. First time I remember doing so. With no offensive starters playing at all there wasn’t much to learn. We’ll see who they are against the Packers a week from Friday.
Ceedee Lamb got his deal. 4 years, 136 million. Let's see if they get Dak now. With or without Dak on the roster in 2025, the QB position will have a 60 million cap hit. Just get it done, Jerry.
"I stopped listening to what Jerry says to the media a long time ago" - Dak Prescott Ouch. Some Cowboys fans never went through the Quincy Carter/ Chad Hutchinson / Drew Henson / Clint Stoerner years and it shows. Welcome back to QB hell. Starting in 2025.
2 hours or so before kick off on sunday noon the Cowboys announced that they had agreed to terms on a 4 year 240 million dollar extension with Dak Prescott. And that's it. Jerry won. Again. Some say (and I think so too) that the deal was done days, maybe even weeks ago. But Jerry wanted to announce it at the last possible second. This was the most talked about contract of all time. I'm just glad we won't be back on QB purgatory for the time being, but now the pressure will be higher. This closes officially the 2024 offseason.
Dak's contract details have surfaced. It's 231 million guaranteed (one million more than Watson's), two void years, no trade and no tag clauses. Just your stantard Jerry and Stephen special. They keep backloading everything. They haven't learned a thing. The literal definition of insanity. Dak will be 35 when this runs out and given how QBs can now play into their 40s I think he's in line for a couple hundred million more. Good for him. And I get to wear the Dak jersey my gf gave me for christmas 2020 for 4 more years, which is nice.
