I'm not falling for it XD But Julio is yet to wake up, some injured guys will start returning soon...who knows!! I refuse to call this "the year"...yet.
It happened last monday night but it didn't break my heart. Bottom of the 10th, ghost runner scored to tie the game. Then the bases got loaded with a little help from the ump that seemed determined to give the game to the A's all night long. So bases loaded, no outs, game tied...and Andres got mad, said "f**k this ump" and proceeded to strike out the following 3 batters. So even a blown save was done with style. BTW, his ERA remains at 0.00 after 17 innings. We're going for the series win today with Woo on the mound who has been (surprisingly) our best pitcher this year. I like our chances for the 9th series win in a row.
The Mariners came from behind (twice) to take the series against the A's for their 9th straight series win. Woo had a subpar start but it didn't matter. Muñoz slammed the door shut again. This team of scraps and AAA players seems unstopable. Julio Rodriguez is starting to heat up. Now a day off and a weekend series at home vs. the Blue Jays with our top starters.
The Mariners Linsanity run is over. After 9 straight series wins we were swept at home by the Blue Jays, of all teams, and none of the 3 games were close. Now we have the Yankees starting tomorrow. God have mercy.
In the last World Baseball Classic, Team Mexico faced Team Japan (the eventual champions) in the semifinals. Mexico had a 1-run lead coming to the 9th inning...and lost, because we didn't have an elite closer. We do now. Andres Muñoz has declared he'll play for Team Mexico next year. He missed the last one because of foot surgery during the offseason. (Thor voice) BRING ME OHTANI!!!!!
The Mariners lost the series against the Yankees, but weren't swept and the games were close enough for me to think maybe we can compete with the AL Elite once everybody is healthy. Speaking of health, we lost our third starter to the IL earlier today, with Bryce Miller being shut down with elbow inflamation. Also JP Crawford was a late scratch from the line up earlier today with an undisclosed injury. We just can't catch a break. Day off tomorrow and a weekend series in San Diego. After that the schedule softens a bit. Let's hope we can take at least one...
The Mariners swept the Padres on the road. I repeat: The Mariners swept the Padres, which were considered a top 3 team in the majors in most power rankings. Strong pitching performances by Emerson Hancock and Logan Evans, followed by the de facto ace of the rotation, Brian Woo made it possible. Now we start a series against the White Sox in Chicago. I told you the schedule would get easier. No new injuries to report.
The Mariners took the series against the White Sox. Too close to confort with 2 1-run games and a loss but I'll take it. Tomorrow a 4-game set against the Astros starts, with George Kirby expected to make his first start of the season after being on IL since spring training. We're slowly getting healthy. Also FYI tomorrow I'm going on vacation so no new updates until next wednesday. I really need this time off, I plan to disconnect from everything for a few days. Cheers!!
Hey, I'm back!! The Mariners lost the 4-game series in Houston 1-3 and saw their divsion lead shrink to 1.5 games. I only saw the box scores and they suddenly looked like the 2024 Marines when the pitching had to be literally perfect for us to have a chance. Yesterday a series at home started against the Nationals and won 9-1 so there's some recovery after all...
Ugh...what a tough series loss. After winning handily game 1, games 2 and 3 were just dreadful. The Dan Wilson honeymoon is over...I'm starting to miss Scott Servais, and I really hated him a year ago... You cannot lose a series at home against teams like the Nationals, with all due respect. You can't sweep a top 3 team on the road and then lay an egg like that at home. And the AAA kids are tearing it up right now. Bring someone up already!! Cole Young, Harry Ford...or both!! This team needs a spark.
It wasn't pretty but the Mariners took the series at home against the Twins. Three blown leads (including 2 blown saves by Muñoz who suddenly looks human), two walk off wins, including one by Cole Young when he was doing his MLB debut, so good start for him!! Cal Raleigh became the first catcher in MLB history (all 200 years of it) to hit 20 Home Runs before June. Also, he now leads the Majors in Home Runs. I'm telling you this because otherwise you might not be aware of it if you're outside Seattle. National media is all about Ohtani and Judge, with Cal as an aftertought. I'm here to inform you. He has put himself in he MVP conversation but I doubt he wins it unless he hits like 60 or something. Cal has become the superstar we expected Julio to be. Day off today and tomorrow a new series at home against the disappointing Orioles.
Welp...the Mariners were swept at home by the Orioles. I have nothing to say. Feels like Cal Raleigh batted in all our runs...clearly he's the whole offense right now, and it's not enough... At least we get the Angels over the weekend. If we lose that series, all alarms will go off...
The Mariners avoided the sweep in Anaheim. Barely. All it took was a gem by Kirby on saunday. 7 innings, 14 Ks (career high). At least he seems to be back in form. Julio got hurt on saturday but played on sunday so he seems to be fine. I'm sounding the alarms... Today we open a series in Arizona. Let's hope we can take one or two...
The Mariners were swept in Arizona and have fallen all the way down to an even .500 record. Geno Suarez with the biggest F**K YOU Grand Slam of all time. Dude loved playing in Seattle and was traded for peanuts. Good for him. Next up a series against.....meh, who cares anymore? (Indians...I mean, Guardians at home).
Time for the yearly "just when I think I'm out they bring me back in" comment. The Mariners swept the Guardians at home. The offense has come back to life out of nowhere. Not that I'm complaining. Series against the Red Sox starts tomorrow.
The Mariners lost the series against the Red Sox. In the one win, Cal Raleigh went nuts with a Grand Slam and 6 RBI, combined with a pitching masterclass by Woo. In the two losses, only one run (combined) that came via an error and a wild pitch. So...yeah. Quality starts by Gilbert (back from the IL) and Castillo were wasted. Day off tomorrow and a weekend series in Chicago against the Cubs. The Mariners remain 1 game over .500 and one game back in the third wild card race.
The Mariners won the series in Chicago and they did it with offense, in a park where every flyball is a HR. On Friday they DFA'd Rowdy Tellez which made me sad because it's one less mexican on the team. Why not Donovan Solano? I thought...that first baseman with the .150 avg. Well, Solano went nuts this series going 9 for 14 with 3 homers, and further proved I shouldn't quit my day job any time soon. Series against the Twins starts tomorrow. Mariners currently hold the third wild card, half a game above Boston.
The Mariners split the series in Minnesota. Game 4 is still going on but we're down 10-0 in the sixth so it's all but over. Before yesterday we scored 41 runs in 4 games. Only 1 run in the following 20 innings. That's how inconsistent this team is. Series in Arlington against the Rangers starts tomorrow. Cal Raleigh still leads the league in HRs and RBIs.
