I was never a huge Van Halen fan but did buy 2 of their albums growing up. One Van Halen and one Van Hagar. I never really thought of them as the same band once Roth left. I didn't like Hagar's solo stuff that much but liked him quite a bit once he joined Van Halen.
I grew up on VH's music, Dawk. I remember unwrapping the plastic covering off the 1984 record and listening to it for the first time. You could tell it was gold at its first listen.
One of my biggest VH memories was first hearing Panama and thinking that he was saying "Cannonball". I sung that aloud in front of a girl I was trying to impress. Believe it or not, I never got the girl.
