I prefer Smeagle's idea of Pedro. A veteran who was the best pitcher in baseball for years with playoff experience.

did anyone else think gerut was going yard on that one? lol

I think they could put Pedro in as the 4th for the same reasons...

Nice play by Feliz but Howard drops it. Brewers have 2 on with no outs in the ninth...

    86WARD -

Phils up 9-3 with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Brewers score another run. 9-4 Phillies.

Phils take it 9-4 and the first of four against the Brew Crew.

    Magic Numbers -
    3 - Marlins / 4 - Braves.

our ninth inning pitching is freaking atrocious, a 7 run lead should feel comfortable, but it doesn't. We should have 100 wins and that's only counting 13 wins in our combined 17 blown saves. WE did win 3 of those blown saves, so if we only blew one save then we would be at 100 wins and a better record than the yankees.

It's really pathetic. I felt the same way...all I could think of was the Brewers coming back to win in the 9th with 2 outs...

to me starting in the world series puts less pressure on you as a pitcher than closing. happ can handle starting. not sure at this stage he is ready to be put in as a closer. he certainly wouldn't be the worst choice though.

pedro has bullpen experience in the post-season, he has the over-all experience to handle most anything you could throw at him. also, the worry about his tendancy to give up a run in the 1st inning is not a concern to me because he wouldn't be pitching the 1st inning, he'd be pitching the ninth. completely different mindset & approach.

How can the Phillies go into the post season with Lidge as their closer??

they won't, he has had his chance to gain the confidence as closer and he just hasn't got it done. I think who goes into the pen depends on who we play in the playoffs. I think if we play the cardinals, there is no way happ goes to the pen as the cardinals struggle against lefties. On a good note, JC looks to be getting healthy. I just am not sure if he is eligible for the postseason roster.

JC admitted himself that he won't be the same when he comes back. Same with Eyre. Not good.

Lidge did alright tonight in a non-close situation. His fast ball looked decent...he did give up a run, late in the inning, but he wasn't horrible...he's got a problem with throwing over the middle of the plate right now...

I'm afraid Charlie will feel the need to see if Lidge can close in the post season instead of going in with a solid plan...

I get what you are saying. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice...they have a few guys they could use. They just need one to step up and show that they can do it...

If we make it to the playoffs and face the cardinals, we need happ in our rotation.

Manuel said today that Brett Myers is his top option to close if he's healthy.

Phillies turn a 4-0 lead into a 7-5 loss and it doesn't matter who is pitching in the 9th inning. It's all a disaster, the Phillies doing their best Mets impersonation. WTF!!!!!
