A very interesting piece by Stephen A. Smith (at least I can picture him not yelling this time). Imagine if Muhammad Ali was going to the Beijing Olympics. Would he resist making a point about Chinese repression? I'm going to be following every medal ceremony to see if any athlete has the guts to stand up. I said it before and will say it again: Giving the Olympics to China was a big mistake. Who's next? Cuba? http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3487980&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab4pos1
China is a force to be reckoned with globally. Giving it to China was an inevitability. I do think that birds nest thing they built for the Olympics was cool.
Still, it will be interesting to see if any athlete tries to make a statement on a ceremony or something...
I remember watching John Carlos and Tommie Smith @ the '68 Mexico Games as a kid. The question now is, will China allow the Media to show you anything controversial?
