Three starters missed practice today as the Detroit Lions began preparations for Sunday’s home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press. Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch took his usual Wednesday off after neck surgery last December. Safety Louis Delmas was out after suffering a hip pointer on the final play of the Lions’ 27-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday. And receiver Calvin Johnson was out. Johnson battled a shoulder injury most of the preseason and landed hard twice Sunday, once when battling Tampa cornerback Aqib Talib for a jump ball early in the second quarter and again in the third quarter on his 1-yard touchdown catch.
