X-Rays On Panthers WR Steve Smith Come Back Negative

Panthers WR Steve Smith suffered a shoulder injury in a non-padded practice Monday night, and while X-rays were negative, his status for the preseason is in doubt. Team officials offered few specifics, but a source with knowledge of the situation said Smith was in considerable pain, and was considering whether to go back to Charlotte for an MRI. The source said it would be a surprise to see Smith during the preseason, based on the early indications.
