Indianapolis Colts Biggest 2013 Team Need

February 1, 2013 by Kurt Turner

The Indianapolis Colts were a huge surprise in 2012. Rookie QB Andrew Luck performed better than expected, and the team as a whole was good enough to make it to the postseason.

So what could a team on the rise possibly need in the off-season?

As I mentioned, Andrew Luck performed better than expected. I say that because he was a rookie, but more importantly, he played behind one of the worst offensive lines in all of football.

Honestly, that’s not a lie. Only Arizona’s O-Line graded out worse according to Pro Football Focus.

This make shift ragtag group allowed a combined 245 sacks, hits and hurries which is FAR more than any other team in the league, but again, Luck seemed to simply play right through it.

Can the Colts roll the dice for another year? Absolutely not.

Mike McGlynn was probably the worst of the bunch. Joe Reitz and Samson Satele performed no better than average and Winston Justice performed admirably albeit inconsistently.

The only bright spot was LG rookie Anthony Castonzo who was the best of the bunch showing slight weekly improvements.

Needless to say, the biggest need for this team is a lineman, particularly one that can play the interior.

I think the Indianapolis Colts could really find a star in Alabama’s Barrett Jones.

Primarily a center, Jones is also experienced at the guard position which is a nice introductory desirable.

Jones is the product of a very talented Alabama O-line. Jones has the necessary movement skills and point-of-contact abilities that scouts are always on the lookout for.

Compared to Bruce Mathews (ex-Oiler/Texans lineman) by Nick Saban this kid is widely viewed as a player who can immediately make an impact.

The Indianapolis Colts can’t rely on Samson Satele or even A.Q. Shipley moving forward and they need a high profile youngster to sure up this line and help protect their franchise QB Andrew Luck.

I believe Barrett Jones could be that guy.
