New York Jets Biggest 2013 Team Need

January 30, 2013 by Kurt Turner

The New York Jets need plenty of help. They need quality position players at LB, FS, CB, WR, RB and QB. But what’s their biggest off-season need?

I think the quarterback position is a huge priority with both safety and corner coming in a very close second. I also can envision the Jets utilizing both free agency and the draft to settle the majority here.

Adam Schefter on ESPN Radio suggested (NOT REPORTED) the Jets trade Darrelle Revis for Alex Smith and a second-round pick according to Jane McManus on Twitter which is a very conceivable scenario.

The only deal-breaker I would see here is the fact that San Fran would be giving up a second round pick, their reliable depth at QB AND they would have to absorb Revis’ monies owed.

The reason for delving into this suggestive mention is because a deal like this could have a significant impact on the Jets’ draft.

Currently I have the Jets taking Ezekeil Ansah, DE/OLB from BYU. The reasoning here is due to the Jets inept pass rush in 2012.

This team could not pressure the quarterback, and as many of us know, a defense that can’t pressure the QB is a defense that will also struggle to cover.

The Jets linebacker corp. is in need of a little upgrading too and Ansah would be a perfect candidate to solve both issues here.

Now, if this dream suggestion Adam Schefter mentioned comes true then the Jets could easily target a safety in the first round such as Kenny Vaccaro (if available) since LaRon Landry is expected to walk, and a corner in the second to possible replace Revis such as Jordan Poyer of Oregon.

But again, this is borderline fairytale land stuff.

Reality suggests the Jets wind up keeping Revis, allow Landry to walk and attempt at least an initial offering for Alex Smith, on their own terms.

Once they realize Smith is too far out of reach, GM John Idzik (ex-Seattle Seahawk executive) could extend an invitation to Matt Flynn.

Ahhhhh, think about that one Jets fans!
