This is starting to get into the meat of the draft as we start on round 3. The middle and late rounds are where great GMs can distance their teams from the pack with insightful picks. In the first two rounds I had said that the Jets should address their offensive line and wide receiver issues. Meanwhile, I think that the Jets will actually go with a cornerback and then a wide receiver.
A Look Back At Round 2 Predictions
Who They Should Take In Round 3:
Marcus Smith DE Louisville - The Jets need to generate better pressure with their pass rush and Smith should be able to help
If Marcus Smith falls to round 3 (and I think he will), he could help out the Jets pass rush.
in that department. While he is not an elite athlete, he does get a nice jump off the ball and has the quickness to beat many lineman around the outside. Smith would not be a detriment to the running game although his size dictates that his main role will be as a speed rusher.
Who They Will Take In Round 3:
Carl Bradford OLB Arizona St - Bradford has the attitude and the aggressive playing style to fit into a Rex Ryan defense, but he does have some physical limitations. If he slips to the third round he could be a nice value pick, but I question his ability to get to the quarterback in the NFL. The attacking mentality of the Jets defense would play to his strengths, but in the end it looks like he would be overmatched against the better offensive lines.
I think that any way you look at it the Jets will be going defense when it comes to round 3. I wouldn't be completely shocked if they grabbed another wide receiver, but they have already invested a large sum of money in Eric Decker and I also think that they go receiver in round 2. That wraps up the predictions for round 3, the next round will be on the way soon.
