ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting on Monday morning that Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith broke his arm playing flag football, and underwent surgery on Sunday.
The timetable for Smith's return has not yet been determined, but he could be ready for the Panthers' opener. However, considering the new players on the Panthers' roster, including Matt Moore becoming the starting quarterback, any time without the team's top receiver won't help the team's offense develop.
Considering the move to Moore at quarterback in Carolina and Smith's negatively trending stats the past few years, it might not be the best year to consider Smith more than a second or even third receiver.
