On Tuesday, just a few days after trading Laurence Maroney to Denver, the New England Patriots lost another running back. This time, the consequences may be more serious.
Kevin Faulk, who ranks third all-time in New England history in yards from scrimmage, has a torn ACL and is done for the year. Faulk isn't a serious fantasy threat, but he is one of Tom Brady's favorite third down receivers out of the backfield, and has been a reliable red zone outlet as well.
The only legitimate running back on the Pats roster is Fred Taylor, who is past his prime.
Look for the Patriots to be in the market for a running back, potentially complicating the trade scenarios for players like Marshawn Lynch or Brandon Jacobs. Until they can find another reliable back, the Pats will be limited to passing on most downs, which will also change their opponents' approach each week. Watch out for more sacks of Brady, coupled with the potential for more turnovers.
