Revis Ends Holdout – Leinart Becomes A Texan

September 6, 2010 by Kurt Turner

Leinart trades in one bench for another. get used to that seat, Matt.

As the first game of the 2010 NFL season draws closer, certain questions are finally getting answered. We already found out today that recently released Seahawks receiver, T.J. Houshmandzadeh has found a new home on the opposite side of the country. While many think this may hurt the value of Anquan Boldin, I believe T.J.'s presense will only open him up more as defenses have another top receiver to key on. What remains to be seen is how much he hampers Derrek Mason's output. The receiver likely hurt the most by his presence is Mark Clayton who has under-performed expectations since his arrival in Baltimore.

This weekend, the Arizona Cardinal's cut ties with their 2006 first round draft pick, QB Matt Leinart. Neither side was happy with the other and a change needed to be made, but barring an injury, the young QB is still far away from being an every game starter in the NFL. Rumors have been churning for a couple of days now that the Houston Texans had their eye on him, and today it's official. Leinart signed a one year contract to sit on the bench for Houston. The team still has Dan Orlovsky, so it remains to be seen where Leinart will fall on the depth chart. Sources say, Leinart will become the Texans' third quarterback behind starter Matt Schaub and Orlovsky, who will remain the No. 2 at least until Leinart has some command of Houston's offensive scheme. For now he has zero fantasy value.

Perhaps the biggest news this morning is that the league's best corner back, Darrelle Revis has finally ended his 35 day holdout.

Revis will sign a four-year contract, according to GM Mike Tannenbaum, who declined to discuss the amount. However, a source said it's a $46 million deal, including $32 million in various guarantees.

Revis expects to be on the field for the team's first game against the Baltimore Ravens, next Monday night.

The All Pro corner tweeted shortly after midnight: "I'm coming home baby!!! Revis Island. Let's Go!"

This is great news for New York Jets fans, but also great news for IDP owners who took a chance that he would play this season. Still for fantasy purposes, he doesn't hold great value. He is a stand out in reality but for fantasy he ranks about 30th among DB's.
