Many fantasy owners who jumped on the Ryan Broyles bandwagon received crushing information today, after coach Jim Schwartz ann0unced that Ryan Broyles has a torn ACL ( as per Dave Birkett on Twitter) effectively shutting the rookie down for the remainder of the season.
This news is most unpleasant, yes, but not without solution.
Ryan Broyles was rapidly rising to the fantasy ranks as a solid PPR option as the Lions' primary—and sudden—slot technician. In his short 10 game stint, Ryan Broyles contributed a modest 22 receptions for 310 yards and two TDs.
For owners looking for a solid internal replacement for Ryan Broyles; don't! Titus Young is not expected to be a part of any game-plan going forward, and Mike Thomas is certainly NOT a reliable option in my opinion.
One note about Mike Thomas: In his three year career with Jacksonville (which included a chance to become the team's number one standout WR) the man amassed a paltry 53 catch, 563 yard, 3 TD average which is hardly an option that fantasy owners want to explore—again in my opinion— especially with many leagues entering into playoff mode.
Just because Thomas is next in line doesn't make him the right choice.
One name I would like to personally throw out there—one who could certainly help owners— is T.Y. Hilton (Colts).
T.Y. Hilton is now getting more and more attention as the weeks go by and for good reason. The Colts staff have finally realized this kid is the "X" factor that can help them navigate the rough coming months ahead, in pursuit of a playoff berth which is reliable news for fantasy owners.
Over the past three games, Hilton has caught 15 balls for 233 yards and 3 TDs and also has four...that's right, four,100+ yard games to his credit. You can find all the "names" you want on the wire this week, but knowing who is the right choice is key!
Time's running out, though, as Hilton's stock has significantly seen an uptick already. In ESPN leagues he is sporting a 33.3% ownership percentage ( 8.2% hike in ownership) and in Yahoo! leagues, he is sporting a 58.0% ownership percentage ( a whopping 15% 1 day hike).
