Has it begun?
Terrell Owens of the Buffalo Bills was shut down on Sunday, going against a New Orleans Saints defense that seemed destined to give Owens an opportunity at a big game.
Owens was targeted on a few long balls only to have Trent Edwards overthrow him badly, on what would have been possibly two TD's. After the game Owens was polite in suggesting that he can't control what plays are called. Owens' five targets were not what was expected from the calibre player Owens is, and has always been. Edwards ended one of the (3rd- 185 games) longest consecutive games with a catch streak in the NFL, and he couldn't get his team in the end-zone all day.
With Owens likely to be upset at his young QB, we will see if the effects of this game will linger throughout the course of the season. Owens has always been known for his ability to speak out in public about his QB's failure to get him the ball, but he shockingly kept it all bottled up in the press-conference after the game (he was still visibly upset). With an unhappy Terrell Owens in the lineup, might we see the beginning of the end for this young Bills QB?
One thing is for sure, if Edwards doesn't start producing through the air Owens and company will be headed for a downward spiral the rest of the season. The passing display Edwards put on yesterday should have ramifications from fans and players in the locker-room if struggles continue. Look for Edwards and the coaching-staff to put the ball in TO's hands against Miami next Sunday....If not, well you know!
Fantasy owners who drafted or traded for Owens (I traded for him this week!) should be biting their fingernails after the Bills last outing. Let's hope this game was a fluke and nothing more. I for one will be watching very closely at the rapport Owens and Edwards have against Miami, this could be a do or die situation if Owens gets overlooked (or overthrown) in the passing-game.
