In an attempt to look like a real football team, the Kansas City Chiefs have made yet another roster move in an extensive line of failed endeavors to fix their offensive woes; don’t worry though, coach Todd Haley has a real good feeling about this one.
The Chiefs have given the ax the 36 year old Bobby Engram to clear the way for Kolby Smith’s return from the PUP list. You all remember Smith don’t you? He was the speedy little back that jumped onto the scene in replacement duties last year only to have his knee blow out on him.
Smith is another desperate roster move made by the Chiefs as they frantically try to piece together some sort of makeshift offense that will afford them points and maybe even a real win!.
With Jamal Charles set to take center stage in place of L.J.—a bigger cry baby than T.O.—, and Chris Chambers being brought in because someone curiously thought it was a good idea, the Chiefs are primed to offer you absolutely nothing in regard to Fantasy even in IDP situations until they get some semblance on the team.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like this team is devoid of talent, they just can’t seem to get anything going.
Matt Cassel is throwing just under 56%, but only has 8 TDs and 5 INTs thanks largely in part to the lack of reliable targets in the field.
The Offensive line can clear away holes for the ground game, but until we see some production out of Charles and possibly even Smith, there is no way to truly trust either option.
The WR situation is a freaking train wreck ala the Oakland Raiders.
Dwayne Bowe is the only option on the team worthy of Fantasy relevance (sort of), Chris Chambers was a has been last year, Bobby Wade is an enigma that can’t seem to step things up which is why Minnesota kicked him to the curb, Mark Bradley has become the invisible man, and now Lance Long is being plugged in an attempt to find someone other than Bowe to catch the ball.
Heck, even Brandon Flowers has been a slight IDP disappointment.
The next two weeks for the Chiefs are pretty favorable with matchups against Jacksonville and Oakland on the road, but after those two matchups it’s a quick sled downhill right into the icy pool of Fantasy irrelevance.
If you Think About It putting Charles on a watch list could be a smart move, and it may even pay off if you picked him up, but outside of their ground game the Chiefs offer very little to owners, and it may be time to trade away Bowe for a better down-the-stretch option now, before he losses all value.
As always, the rule of thumb is to keep a discerning eye on prospects like Charles, Smith and even Long, but do so with a half moon eyelid!
Here's one last look at everything before kickoff, Good Luck today!
