Three Running Backs Coming Off the Injury Radar

April 6, 2011 by Kurt Turner

When is comes to the injury radar there's plenty of running backs that come to mind. Here is my top three...

  1. Ahmad Bradshaw
  2. Ryan Grant
  3. Maurice Jones-Drew

Ahmad Bradshaw - Zach Berman caught up with Ahmad at a Charity event, Bradshaw said he is ready to "fly" after 4 operations to his feet and ankles in the last 2 years. Bradshaw's injuries really don't worry me short term, he should be fine in 2011. The real stock ticker here is, do the Giants retain Bradshaw in 2011? The Giants have placed a second round tender on Bradshaw and they need to pay him this year, but that will be tough with Jacobs on board. Jacob's said he would take a pay cut to stay with the G-Men. If this happens I'd expect similar numbers from Jacobs and look for Bradshaw to improve a good amount over last years stats. The Giant's struggled through the air because of multiple injuries at the WR and TE spot which allowed the box to be stacks. Look for more lanes and dump off / screens this year which should equal more fantasy football points for your team. I like Bradshaw in PPR leagues only!

Ryan Grant - According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette Ryan Grant says "This is actually the best I've felt in a long time," "I could play right now if need be. But yeah, I'll be ready for training camp, whenever that does go down.".  As you see below, Grant had some impressive numbers in 2009. Of course he only played in 1 game last year after he hurt his ankle in the season opener. Glad he is ready to come back but James Starks impressed filling in for Grant. Starks was able to produce during the playoffs with 81 carries for 315 yards and 1 TD. Reports are out that Starks is now running a 4.4 forty at 218 pounds. Green Bay is reportedly "strongly committed" to keeping Starks in a major role, even with Ryan Grant returning. This spells a running back by committee, a situation one should avoid during the draft.

Maurice Jones-Drew - The Jaguars beat writer for the Florida Times-Union tweeted that Maurice Jones-Drew revealed on Sirius-XM that his knee is ahead of schedule following January surgery to repair meniscus damages and that he is able to run a full month ahead of schedule. Many redraft leagues will allow MJD to drop but I'm not scared one bit.  I expect a strong bounce back from MJD and the lower he drops in the draft the better. Low risk high reward for a proven RB with tons of heart and love for the game.
