Week 8 was a big one for injuries and as such the waiver wire is stacked with possibilities. Plenty of situations are still fluid and some speculation is going to be necessary. Read along and hopefully I can guide you through the minefield of possible Knile Davises to players that are actually worth a roster spot.
Week 8 Recommendations Results (Standard League Scoring):
· Jacquizz Rodgers TB – 19 carries 69 yards 1 touchdown 1 reception 9 yards 12 Fantasy Points
· Ty Montgomery GB – DNP (Illness)
· Chris Thompson WAS – 7 carries 14 yards 5 receptions 27 yards 3 Fantasy Points
· Dwayne Washington DET – Healthy Scratch
Rodgers played well, but sustained an injury. Montgomery was a surprise inactive as he is dealing with an illness related to a sickle cell trait. Thompson was outsnapped and outperformed by Rob Kelley, but is still worth holding on to. Dwayne Washington on the other hand is very droppable after being a healthy scratch. Theo Riddick is the only Detroit back to own.
Week 9 Waiver Wire Picks
Charcandrick West KC 7.3% owned
The Chiefs are running out of options at running back and at the moment, West is the last man standing. Charles is getting his knee looked at again and Ware is now in the league concussion protocol. There is a very good chance that West will start at least for a week. The opponent for that week is the Jaguars and they are not exactly known for their stout defense. Grab West for a one week fill in that could turn into more.
The Rest Of The Waiver Wire Picks
Murky Situations
Tim Hightower NO 1.9% owned
Week 8 saw Mark Ingram in the doghouse as he fumbled and the defense recovered and scored. That was the end of the game for Ingram and Hightower took over, proceeding to dominate. Hightower ran 26 times for 102 yards against a stout Seattle defensive front. While this is likely going to be a committee going forward, Hightower has shown what he can do when given a chance. The coaching staff in New Orleans is likely to continue to have a short leash on Ingram. The only problem is that there will be some uncertainty about which back will be startable in a given week.
Robert Kelley WAS 22.9% owned
The Redskins are never easy to predict when it comes to personnel and it is likely that Matt Jones will still be in the mix when healthy. With all of that being said, Kelley had a nice game on the road against a decent Bengals defense. Running for 87 yards and a touchdown should be enough to at least keep him firmly in the mix and Kelley will probably start again if Jones still cannot go. This is a guy worth having on your roster, whether Matt Jones is back or not.
Stash Or Watch
Dion Lewis NE 28.3% owned
The Patriots have last season’s surprise star Dion Lewis practicing. Last Thursday was the beginning of a 21 day window to either activate Lewis or shut him down for the season. It may be worth having Lewis taking up a bench spot at least until that decision is made. If he is healthy enough to go at all this season, Lewis has shown that he can be a difference maker for a team with an already explosive offense.
