June 27, 2018 by Brendan Cole

Here are our PPR wide receiver rankings for the 2018 fantasy football draft. When looking at rankings this early in the preparation process you need to keep in mind they can be very fluid. We have a lot of WR that are in position battles and rookies that will probably carve out a roll in the offense. As we enter the preseason you'll see the rankings update frequently.

Here are our other rankings: Quarterback Rankings - Running Back Rankings - Wide Receiver Rankings - Tight End Rankings - D/ST Rankings - Kicker Rankings

Drafting wide receivers is tough. If you can't draft at least 2 proven wide receivers by the end of the 5th round things start to get hairy. Upside receivers I like past the 5th round:

  • Larry Fitzgerald - underrated year after year, check his stats.
  • Marvin Jones - I'm going with Tate over Jones in PPR leagues, but even in PPR formats Jones is no slouch.
  • Michael Crabtree - He will score plenty of touchdowns and exceed his 6th round ADP.
  • Pierre Garcon - 8th round high upside pick especially in PPR leagues.
  • Robert Woods - 8th round ADP is criminal but understandable, jump on it. Kupp however is the Rams WR you want in PPR leagues.
  • Calvin Ridley - a serviceable bye-week replacement player with #1 upside if/when Julio gets hurt, or not. 10th round ADP.

  • Amari Cooper - I recently made the case for Cooper finishing as a WR1 as Jon Gruden's No 1 guy. He has enough upside to finish as a Top 6 receiver.
  • Michael Crabtree - Looks to be the Ravens' top receiver and will be catching passes from a quarterback fighting for a future contract. Remember how aggressive Alex Smith became last year? That bodes well for Crabtree.
  • Emmanuel Sanders - Too many people are down on Sanders for his rough 2017 season. The three years prior, he averaged out as the WR14. Now has a competent quarterback in Case Keenum.
  • Josh Gordon - I won't touch him this year. He returns to a suddenly crowded Browns roster with a quarterback who's never thrown for more than 3,100 yards in a season. Also important to remember Gordon only finished 32nd in points per game in his "magical" 2017 season. PUMP. THE. BRAKES.
  • Torrey Smith - Ended up in the best possible landing spot. Cam Newton loves throwing the deep ball, frequently to his coaches' chagrin. Smith is a solid late round flier to consider.

Undervalued:

Larry Fitzgerald has an ADP around WR18 right now, but I nearly ranked him in my top 10. Yes, he will get old at some point, but he is a PPR machine.

Demaryius Thomas is another veteran wideout that will provide nice value. He has his most competent quarterback option since Peyton Manning and Thomas's numbers will rebound nicely. Don't sleep on the aging Bronco.

Sammy Watkins... *ducks hurled bottles*. It's a new day for one of the biggest disappointments of 2017. Watkins has a coach in Andy Reid that knows how to help playmakers, well, make plays. Word is that the Chiefs will be moving Watkins all over the formation to get him some space to work with. I have him ranked as WR23, but could see him finishing well above that spot.

Overvalued:

Tyreek Hill's value will take a hit with the addition of Sammy Watkins. While he does not need a lot of touches to eat up huge chunks of yardage, Hill will not have a top-10 2018. He is currently being drafted as WR10 and I see him much closer to WR20.

Josh Gordon has been a great story cleaning up his life and returning to the NFL. That does not mean that 2013 Gordon will be walking out onto the field though. The Browns are going to play ball-control football with two big backs (Hyde and Chubb), a dynamic tight end (Njoku) and an epic slot machine (Landry). Gordon will get his and there will be some flashy plays, but don't be surprised if he ends up ranked in the 20s rather than the upper echelon of receivers.

Julian Edelman is a name brand, but he may be a brand to avoid. He is an older receiver with a suspension (pending appeal) hanging over his head. Not to mention trying to return from a severe injury. The Pats have a lot of decent receiving options and Edelman may well find himself further down that list than he is accustomed to in 2018.
